Newport Coast - Views & Poolside

May 4, 2017 Newport Coast, CA

Believe me when I say Newport Coast is amazing because it really is. Our first day there, which was Saturday, was spent exploring the place and hanging by the pool. In the morning, we had a "friendly" basketball game, which we had to forfeit because Chris wasn't feeling too well towards the end. Chris suffers from asthma and it almost usually shows up when he puts his body under strenuous forms of exercise - my family's very competitive so you can imagine that our basketball game was on the very competitive side (winning team gets Starbucks after all!).

After the game, we decided to check the pool out. If you went to the second floor of the registration building, you were greeted with this amazing view.

Prior to this trip, I invested in a waterproof phone case for my iPhone - BEST $10 of my life. I was able to take my phone into the water without it getting destroyed.

That evening, we had my uncle's 50th birthday party with the theme of "vintage dude". The food was great but the company was even greater. A million shades of red later, I'm still reminiscing about Newport Coast and can't wait until I set foot in this vacation club again.

I'm bummed because I took so many photos and had such a difficult time finding the ones I wanted to share. Also, I took most photos with my iPhone and I'm really sort of determined on getting a camera. My family owns a DSLR but it's the family camera... I want to save up and get my own. Any suggestions?

  4. That place looks INCREDIBLE!!! I don't know much about DSLRs, but if you don't want the bulk I have heard that the Sony RX compact cameras are really awesome!

Maybe it's time for me to invest in waterproof case too. I kept delaying my purchase and regret it when I forget the waterproof case of my action camera -.-

  13. Your resort looks amazing! Hope you enjoyed your vacation :) It's crazy how competitive your family can get over Starbucks, but it's all fun right?! Also, the camera you get will largely depend on your budget. If you want something to get started, perhaps you can look into the Canon Rebel series. Those are their entry level DSLRs.

  17. Eena, you really get to travel all over spots in California. Makes me want to explore our little corner of SoCal far more! I've used several DSLRs from Canon and they're my preferred brand of camera. They make some great entry level DSLRs if you're not looking t spend more than $700.

  24. What a beautiful place! Seeing your pictures and reading about the marvelous time you had, really has me wishing for vacations soon! I haven't been to a cool sunny place since last year (I went to a really nice resort on a beach). Btw, I totally need to invest on a waterproof camera as well! Oh the amazing pictures you could get with that! About the camera, I think it's really up to what you like, but I have always likes Nikon best. xx

  28. Marriott's Newport Coast looks amazing! I'm sorry to hear that Chris didn't feel too well at the end. At least you got to play for a bit :). The view is AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Investing $10 makes a lot of sense to save the $700+ device. Preventive measures ftw!

You two look great! Glad that you enjoyed your time there :). This makes me want to book a staycation there!

Cameras and lens can be pretty expensive but it's an investment. I have a Nikon D5500 with portrait lens and it works great! If you don't want to spend too much, you can always get an older generation DSLR. The one I have has wifi and touchscreen. It's an extra feature that doesn't really affect the quality of your pictures.

Newport Coast looks amazing! I love how you guys played basketball haha My brother also loves to play basketball even when we're on a vacation. I feel bad for Chris though, because I also used to suffer from asthma.
The view of the pool is stunning! And you guys seem so happy swimming there 💖
Your photos are only taken by iPhone? I thought for sure they were taken using a DSLR! I've always wanted a Canon 60D because my photographer friends back in uni used it :)
