Life Lately - Yurak 5k & Spring Fever

April 4, 2017

This past Friday, I was supposed to start at my new job (more of, new branch, same company); however, my transfer paperwork didn't go through so that didn't happen. On the bright side, I came down with the flu that same day so it was probably a blessing in disguise for me. I spent Friday doing laundry to "sweat the fever out" and binge-watching Chewing Gum on Netflix. Side note: if you ever need a laugh, this show is it.

As you can see in this bottom photo, I am officially the shortest in my family.

On Saturday, I had to drag myself out of bed to do the Yurak 5k Memorial Run to support the athletes at my younger brother's high school. I know, I know - stay at home you're sick or go get some rest. Sadly, the tickets were non-refundable so I really had to do the run. Besides, my brother is the captain of the golf's varsity team (he's only a freshman so he's definitely going places, ha) so it was mandatory for him to be there - I mean, I think I'm a great sister and I support my brothers in their academics and sports more than I probably supported myself in those areas (basically, I'm their second mom).

The run was basically just around the campus and done in three laps. When you're sick though, you feel the pain. You get the sweats and well, it wasn't a pretty 5k - but I made it in less than an hour! I should also mention that I was never really a runner growing up. In 2015, I ran regularly during the week (around 4-5x) mostly to get used to it, which I did, but then I fell off that wagon and haven't really ran on a regular basis since January of last year.

I mean, everyone gets a medal for finishing the run so that was something. I think the run did help - I'm feeling so much better now; my nose may be a little clogged but I'm breathing through my nostrils at least.

Hopefully your weekend was more enjoyable than mine!

  2. Thanks Gillian! It was harder than my normal runs but whatever works I guess because I feel totally great now. And haha, I had to grow up too early when they came around xD

Awh, bummer. I feel like most of my friends back home in Cebu were at the concert because that's all I saw on my Instagram feed. Sorry you didn't get to go this time, maybe the next time they come around, hopefully?

  5. I wish I had your motivation. I'm so lazy and when I'm sick that intensifies, yet I feel even less guilty because of it. I would not be able to get up and run anywhere let alone being sick and running at the same time. I've never enjoyed running. But I wish I could be more into doing a daily run, doesn't require any extra equipment, aside from good running shoes.

But you are amazing and a great sister too.

  6. I'm so proud that you did the run even though you're sick! And you do sound like your brothers' second mom because you support them in their endeavors ๐Ÿ˜Š
I'm glad you're a little better now ๐Ÿ’– I have also gone down with the flu, on the night of Coldplay's concert here which is a bummer/destiny because I had no tickets to begin with lmao they sold out so fast ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ญ

  12. At the end of the day, I think my motivation was purely due to the fact the tickets were nonrefundable xD I've never enjoyed running, to be honest. Too much work!

    And thanks, means a lot.
